In the style of Germany in Autumn, another cooperative venture by German authors and filmmakers, dealing with a political subject: the danger of war and desire for peace in the face of the increasing number of nuclear weapons in East and West. A collaborative effort by Heinrich Böll, Alexander Kluge, Volker Schlöndorff and others, the film is a contribution to the leading issue in international relations. The attempts by NATO to install neutron bombs in Germany in 1981 and the sharp reaction of the former Soviet Union acquires a renewed topicality with the attempt by the US administration to establish a missile shield in the Czech Republic and Poland.
